Log volume tables on your phone
Log volume without leafing through a book. Enter diameter and length – the app finds the volume and adds it up for you.
What are log volume tables?
Log volume tables (roundwood volume tables, log scale tables) give the volume of a log from its diameter and length. Buyers and sellers of logs use them at the sawmill, at the landing and when buying timber. In North America, board foot rules such as Scribner Decimal C and Doyle are used; in Slovakia and Czechia, the tables follow the standards STN 48 0009 and ČSN 48 0009 (m³).
How you look up volume in a table
For each log you measure the length and the diameter. In the table you find the row for the diameter and the column for the length – where they meet is the volume of the log. Then you add up all logs. The exact measuring rules are set by the standard or by the agreement between buyer and seller.
Where paper tables slow you down
- looking up every single log in the book,
- writing it into a notebook and then again into the computer,
- adding up on a calculator, with mistakes,
- a wet, dirty or lost book in the forest,
- separate tables for softwood and hardwood.
Tables on your phone instead of a book
The TIMBERPOLIS app scales logs by 22 methods, including Scribner and Doyle, right on your phone. Enter diameter and length, choose the species and see the volume at once. Every log is saved to a list, the total updates as you go and you send the tally to inventory or to a document. It works in the forest without signal.
Frequently asked questions
Where can I download log volume tables?
Printed tables are sold by forestry publishers and shops. If you just need the volume of your logs, you do not have to download or buy them – the TIMBERPOLIS app scales by 22 methods and is always with you on your phone.
Which table should I use?
The one your buyer or seller uses – usually the national standard or the log rule of your region. In the app you switch the method in the settings, so you always calculate the same way as the other side.
Does the app show volume inside and outside bark?
Yes. For metric methods you switch between under-bark and over-bark volume with one tap.
Does it work without internet?
Yes. Scaling and the tally recorder work offline, so you can measure right in the forest. Data is sent once you have signal.
What if the buyer uses a different method?
The app knows 22 scaling methods, for example Huber, Smalian, Doyle and Scribner. Switch the method in the settings and compare the result the same way as the other side.
